At Conscious Investment Management (CIM), we make investments that go beyond financial returns. We believe capital can be a catalyst for positive change, creating meaningful, lasting impact for individuals and communities who need it most.
With the support of our investors, CIM has been investing in Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), purpose-built housing for people with significant disability, since 2020. We have focused our capital on increasing the supply of design categories with significant unmet demand and, in partnership with Liverty Housing, sought to deliver this in a way that is participant-led. We believe our investment in this sector over the last six years has proven our thesis that impact investment, when done well, can be life changing.

Louis’s story: living with multiple sclerosis
Louis is a man who has lived with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for nearly 20 years. Over time, living with MS meant gradually adjusting to the loss of many things he once valued about himself. Finding a home was a challenge, one that extended beyond bricks and mortar. Moving into SDA housing was a huge milestone, but it also meant navigating the complex world of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
In the months leading up to his move, Louis was nervous. The maze of NDIS policies and processes seemed overwhelming. Thankfully, Liverty Housing’s Tenant Specialist, Olivia, became his guide and advocate. Olivia spent countless hours connecting with Louis, not just understanding his support needs but truly getting to know him as a person. She worked with Louis to unpack the complexities of the NDIS and helped him envision what a ‘good home’ could be.
Together, they explored what transitioning to SDA living would look like, tackling every detail and concern with compassion and expertise.

Moving from uncertainty to independence
Since moving into Gadsden, Louis has blossomed in remarkable ways. His anxiety has significantly reduced, replaced with growing confidence and community connection. He has learned so much from his neighbours about navigating disability services while maintaining dignity and self-direction.
Louis’s family visits regularly. His wife and son often enjoy family time on the beautiful rooftop terrace, and his son now independently catches the train after school to visit him. This newfound independence means the world to Louis. His son can see him not just as someone who needs care, but as a “male role model.” For Louis, this is what moving to Gadsden truly means: reclaiming his place in the world, thriving as a family man, and being an active community member.

Louis greatly appreciates Olivia’s support throughout this journey, praising her deep expertise and genuine care. He knows Olivia’s lived experience was invaluable, describing how she ‘held space’ for him while guiding him through the “…various bits and pieces” of the disability system.
Beyond the story: the data that backs it up
This personal transformation is reflected in broader tenant feedback. According to the 2025 Tenant Satisfaction Survey by Liverty Housing, developed by the Summer Foundation and La Trobe University, an impressive 84% of respondents in CIM SDA-financed dwellings report feeling “Satisfied” or “Very Satisfied” with their housing, a notable increase over previous years.
These results reinforce the importance of investments in SDA housing and the difference they make in people’s lives.
